The course will examine the sports law system (lex sportiva) and its general provisions, with an emphasis on the autonomy of sports law. It will evaluate the organization of sports law and its relation to the general legal system, including the division into public and private law. The course will also aim at expanding the students’ knowledge of the sports law entities, including their detailed description and focusing on the sports structure under the sports act and the applicable European sports model. Students will also learn about the specific legislation and application of sports law, as well as the disciplinary responsibility in sports. Finally, the course will provide the students with an understanding of the current core issues in the area of competence disputes, human rights, competition laws, and the organization of professional sports, including the public funding aspect.
