Holy Saturday Trip around Opole
It is Easter time for Roman Catholics and other Christian denominations. Starting as early as last Thursday, the religious and traditional celebrations begun. The main holiday is on Sunday, when it is believed that Jesus Christ resurrected. Some Poles celebrate it with a special breakfast and some with special supper on Saturday evening. During the day on Saturday, people are finishing the preparations, they are visiting churches to have their food blessed. It is believed that Jesus, the God is on this day in the grave and therefore there are so called ‘God’s graves’ in all the churches.
On Good Saturday, April 15 we are planning to visit a few churches in Opole to see how the locals prepare for the holiday. It will be a great occasion to visit different districts of Opole, see different churches and types of architecture: post-communist blocks of flats, former villages incorporated into the town with significant German and Silesian minority, old cement plant working class districts etc.
We will use public transport, so please have 6 PLN for a day ticket and your student ID with you. We’re meeting in front of Niechcic dormitory at 10.00 AM, Saturday, April 15 and will spend approx. 5-6 hours riding buses and visiting different parts of Opole.
