AMERICAN PHILOSOPHY

The course on American Philosophy outlines some aspects of the cultural and intellectual history of the US from the contemporary perspective – for example: the Puritan heritage in today’s politics; the Transcendentalist factors in education; the idea of Civil Disobedience, and the Pragmatist character of viewing social issues. Also, some philosophical, ethical, and social aspects of Americanization, McDonaldization, and Coca-Colonization will be discussed, along with their possible impact upon European and Muslim cultures. For those interested in American arts, some philosophical aspects of films will be discussed as well.
