About the Programme

Faculty of Chemistry is located in one of the most recently renovated buildings of our University. The 3-year BA program, built on the border of chemistry and biology, is designed to prepare students to enter a variety of interdisciplinary activities in biochemical, biotechnological, biopharmaceutical, environmental and food sciences. Our graduates are equipped with all the required knowledge and skills to work at chemical laboratories, analytical laboratories for agriculture and environmental protection facilities, at pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies, as well as at respective administrative institutions dealing with the above-mentioned fields.

Our faculty enjoys recognition in the academic community both in Poland and abroad.

The Most Important Courses

Ecological chemistry

During this course we will teach you to understand, define and explain the relationships occurring in nature as well as determine their dependence on changes caused by human activity. It is highly important for our students to acquire the skill to plan the production processes so that the relationships were not interrupted. And we are determined to provide you with such competences together with a capability to analyse the impact of changing environmental factors on ecosystem.

 Microbiology

During the course of microbiology students will get familiar with the fundamentals of construction, functioning, and significance of microorganisms in the natural and human environments. Due to having both lectures and laboratory practicals, students will get equipped with theoretical knowledge – will be able to describe morphological construction and physiological processes of the fundamental groups of microorganisms, together with the opportunity to apply it in practice, using the basic laboratorial methods and techniques appropriate for microbiological diagnostics.

Inorganic chemistry
The main aim of the course of to provide students with basic knowledge about the properties of elements of the block s and p of the periodic system (atomic and physical properties, reactivity, occurrence, the most important compounds and use). Workshops, that are held together with lectures, help understand and practice the issues covered by the curriculum by solving problematic tasks.

The Structure of the Programme

In semester 1 students get to know the basic notions and terminology of chemistry introduced to them during General Chemistry classes held in the form of lectures, workshops and laboratory practicals.

During semester 2, you will learn Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Applied Chemistry and Management of Chemicals, General and Systematic Botany, Chemical Basis of the Life Processes, Mathematics. Starting with the second semester, along with the compulsory courses, students can choose from a variety of selective courses from other fields of knowledge.

Semester 3 will be dedicated to such courses as Physical Chemistry, Basic Theoretical and Quantum Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Animal and Plant Physiology and Microbiology.

In semester 4, besides having such study areas as Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry and Basic Biology, and Ecological Chemistry, students have additional classes of a foreign language and start to get familiar with the main aspects of a research project. Moreover, in July-September during Practical Training they can apply the theoretical knowledge and skills obtained during the foregoing semesters.

During the last year (5-6 semesters) of BA studies students keep on developing their proficiency in such subjects as Chemical Technology, Inorganic Chemistry, Chemistry of Materials, Crystal Chemistry, Basic Biotechnology and others, finish their research projects, prepare their BA theses and get ready for the defence. Advantages of the Programme

State-of-the-art equipment

We are incredibly proud of our advanced equipment, which is available to our entire staff and students alike. We are aware that reliable research results and experiments depend on the newest technology available, and we provide them with gas and liquid chromatographs featuring various types of detectors, capillary electrophoresis instruments, NMR, FTIR, NIR, UVVis, Mass spectrometers, Xenotest, and others.

English as a communication tool

The Bachelor’s degree programme Biological Chemistry provides education in a world language – English, which constitutes an essential communication tool, both in multinational companies as well as international research teams.

Personal treatment

One of the advantages of the study programme is a limited number of students invited yearly for studying at our faculty as well as well-equipped, modern laboratories, which provides all students with an opportunity to conduct respective experiments under careful supervision of experienced scientists.

Training on-site

One of our primary tasks is to encourage graduates to get envolved in the scientific activity, that is why Faculty of Chemistry offers volunteer positions to all students, who are more deeply interested in real scientific research, in the frame of the projects conducted.
