We are pleased to invite you to the Induction Week at the University of Opole. From 5th till 10th October we will be showing you the University, the town and its surroundings. First of all, we would like you to enjoy yourselves, get interested and involved, and strike new friendships. At the same time, the Induction Week will be an integral part of your studies, necessary for the proper start. This is why we expect you to participate in all the meetings and trips marked in red (obligatory). If you participate in the celebrations of the Induction Week you will have our permission to skip the lectures. The programme is as follows:

 

2th October

Unofficial start. We want to play backgammon/tavla/nardy and get to know each other. We will walk to the Bolko island park to enjoy the warm Polish autumn. Let’s meet at the entrance of Niechcic dorm, 4.30 pm. Join us if you fancy quality time outdoors.

5th October

Inauguration of the Erasmus+ Studies in the Blue Auditorium of the Collegium Maius (Address: Kopernika Square 11A, Room No. 301) at 12.00. callegium maius 011 4x3 This is the photo of the building. I hope you recognize it. It is located next to Collegium Minus (the one in which Erasmus+ office is situated). The Buddies will help you to get there. The meeting at the entrance hall of Niechcic dormitory at 11.45 am. kampus aka 001 4x3 You are welcome & expected to be there. We will discuss the matters connected with your studies, make a presentation of our University and answer your questions. We have also prepared a surprise for you. Tour around Opole centre – starting point at Collegium Maius, from 1:30 pm till approx. 4:00 pm You are welcome & expected to be there. We will show you around the centre of our town, not only to make you familiar with its historical and cultural value, but also to help you get around easily. You will see the best of our town within 2 hours. Meeting in a restaurant (trying traditional dumplings, that is “pierogi”) at 4:00 pm. Holy Mass at 6:00 pm – St Jadwiga’s Church in Drzymały Street (in Polish “kościół seminaryjno-akademicki”) This is not compulsory. If you are Christian and understand some Polish, or if you simply would like to participate in a Catholic ceremony and integrate with us, feel free to attend our Holy Mass at the church strictly connected with the Faculty of Theology of our University. We will be praying for Students and Academics of our University and a successful academic year.

6th October

Inauguration of the Academic Year at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Theology in Drzymały Street at 11:00 am It will be the 66th time our Institution opens a new academic year and important persons will make their appearance – among others, our Rector – prof. dr hab. Stanisław Sławomir Nicieja, and the special guest Mr Waldemar Dąbrowski, the director of Great Theatre-National Opera. You would also have a chance to listen to our Academic Choir “Dramma Per Musica”. The Inauguration will be broadcast live. Please mind the speeches will be in Polish.

If you are interested in participating in this event please let us know (erasmus@uni.opole.pl) till Sunday (04.10.2015 – 9:00 pm). The staff of our International Office will guide those who are willing to go to the site of the Inauguration Meeting.

7th October

Coach tour to Bierkowice & Moszna – starting point at Niechcic at 9:20 am You are welcome & expected to be there. Please take warm clothes to protect you from cold, wind or rain, strong waterproof shoes for walking on soil which can be wet. Around 9:30 we will depart for the western district of Bierkowice. From 10:00 till 11.30 you will be visiting our open-air museum, showing our region’s village life, work and celebration centuries ago. Then our tour guide prepared a surprise for you. Afterwards, the coach will take us southwards to Moszna. The drive will take up to one hour. Moszna is a village with an unbelievably beautiful palace hosting cultural life and marked by history and legends. You will see the charming castle as well as visit its towers. You will also be provided with the dinner there.

8th October

Coach tour to Krasiejów – starting point at Niechcic at 10:00 am You are welcome & expected to be there. Again, please take warm clothes to protect you from cold, wind or rain, strong waterproof shoes for walking on soil which can be wet. This time we will drive approx. 20 km to the East. In the village Krasiejów some very important archeological discoveries were made. e Our University, in particular our Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, played a great role in this discovery and the preservation works that followed. 11:00 – 13:00 is the time for the visit at the palaentological museum and the park, where you will admire the remains of dinosaurs, specifically Silesaurus Opolensis, as well as their replicas. You will also be provided with the dinner there.

9th October

Visit at the Opole Silesian Museum & ZOO – starting point at Niechcic at 9:30 am This museum is housed in a former Jesuit college (1698). The permanent display features the prehistory and history of the surrounding area and city, and there are always temporary exhibitions. As for the ZOO in the city of, it Opole was founded in 1930. About 20 hectares (49 acres) in extent, it houses around 1000 animals of about 240 different species. We will finish visiting both places at around 2:00 pm. We hope you like our programme and look forward to experiencing Opole and its vicinity.
