Łukasz Walkowiak on Roma in Poland And Slovakia

Erasmus+ programme opens up many opportunities for students. Doing an internship in the company or institution of your choice contributes a lot to your personal develpment and enhances the skills necessary for professional growth.

Łukasz Walkowiak, MA sociology student and the head of the Sociology Students’ Assocation , has spent two months in Slovakia on Erasmus+ mobility, doing the research on Roma people. He was trying to find an answer to the question, why Roma have stuck between the worlds – the modernity and tradition, a myth and the future.

On November, 22, he could share his findings with the regular sociology and Erasmus+ exchange students during the workshop, organised by the UO Sociology Students’ Assocation. The issue of Roma was also of interest to the trainees from Kazakhstan, who had come to the Insitute of Sociology for a short-term exchange programme.

The end of this month will be full of intercultural events: on Tuesday our friends from Kazakhstan will tell us more about the system of education in their country, and on Wednesday, we all are invited to the “Introducing Cultures” event, which will be dedicated to Kyrgyzstan.
