Shopping

Good to know:

  • In Poland shops are closed on most Sundays of the year! There are few when they are open (so-called trade Sundays), you can search it online, but it is better to remember to buy everything you need on Saturday and relax on Sunday.

  • Look for products marked as “promocja” (promotion/sale). Products on sale are often indicated by red/orange colour of price tag. Often Biedronka and Lidl provide promotion only for customers with loyalty card/app. Install app and register to get access to them. In Lidl’s case, at checkout, you need to scan your loyalty card (available in app Lidl Plus), but before you need to activate promotions you are interested in – otherwise they will not apply. In Biedronka’s case, you need to enter your phone number linked to moja Biedronka app (earlier activation of coupons not required).

  • Many shops offer self-service checkouts and accept card payments. Reusable shopping bags are usually paid separately, so it’s worth bringing your own.

  • Poland has a deposit-return system that covers cans, plastic, and some glass bottles. Returnable bottles have a special label. You can return them at bottle return machines. The deposit is 0.50 zł per bottle.

  • Alcohol is prohibited in shops between 10PM and 6AM. This restriction does not apply to restaurants, bars and cafés
