The Municipal Public Library, Fil. 4, in Opole invites all those who are interested in gender issues and cultural differences to participate in the debate called Gender Ideology(ies). Man and Women – the same by nature, different by culture, organized by professors and students of the Institute of Sociology, the University of Opole, and Hello Uni Opole PL.
What does it mean to be a man and a woman? Is this definition always and everywhere the same? The aim of the debate is to figure out what those two categories mean and how they are perceived in different contexts. It will be an attempt to answer the questions such as why Christian women are not obliged to wear niqabs, whether women in Afghanistan feel themselves deprived of freedom, and whether Polish women feel the same; whether we all can be sure that we are as free as we think or would like to be. Moreover, we are going to talk about the functions of love, if it has any other functions besides the procreative one; how wives are dependent on their husbands’ will; how language can hurt both women and men; and how to discern the subtle line between natural and cultural differences.
These are the issues we will try to shed the light on during the debate, which is held in the framework of the Between cultures meetings organized in The Municipal Public Library, Fil. 4 in Opole.

The meeting will be attended visited by students from different countries who study Intercultural Communication at the University of Opole, as well as Erasmus students, so all the speeches and commentaries will be translated.

Być kobietą lub być mężczyzną nie zawsze i nie wszędzie znaczy to samo. Sprawy komplikuje fakt, że w ogóle można przekraczać te dwie kategorie. Chcemy zapytać, dlaczego chrześcijanki nie muszą nosić nikabu? Czy kobiety w Afganistanie czują się zniewolone? Czy kobiety w Polsce czują się zniewolone? Czy rzeczywiście jesteśmy tak bardzo wolni jak nam się wydaje? A może sytuacja w Afganistanie czy Turcji wcale tak bardzo nie odbiega od sytuacji w Polsce? Czy kobieta może wszystko… na co pozwoli jej mąż i czy jego honor to jej horror? Czy miłość służy czemuś jeszcze oprócz przetrwania naszego gatunku? Jak język robi krzywdę kobietom i mężczyznom? Jak zrozumienie uniwersalnych praw biologicznych warunkujących dymorfizm płciowy pomaga zaakceptować naturalną złożoność różnic pomiędzy płciami? Między innymi nad tymi kwestiami pochylimy się w kolejnym spotkaniu z cyklu Między kulturami w Miejskiej Bibliotece Publicznej. Wśród zaproszonych dyskutantów są:
